Dinner recipes

Brussels sprouts stir-fry

This is the kind of thing I make for dinner when I’m home alone. It’s quick, healthy and most importantly, tasty. I would eat this with brown rice and a poached egg on top, but you could have it with salmon instead for an extra dose of healthy oils.

Slow cooker recipes

Some delicious slow cooker recipes that I developed for BBC Food.

Caponata

Caponata is made for the height of summer, when aubergines, peppers and tomatoes are at their best. While it’s not exactly summer yet, even though this weather is fooling us somewhat, there are some beautiful aubergines in Brixton market; if you can’t find nice ones, then save this recipe for August. Potato and horseradish gratin

A simple recipe for a really good dauphinoise. I flavoured mine with horseradish to go with some beer-braised ox cheeks, but you could swap this for apple slices to go with pork.

Really good pork belly

I love pork belly, it’s super cheap and totally delicious if you do it right – crisp (not tooth shattering) crackling and meltingly tender meat underneath.

Full to the brim with sweet beetroot and tangy goats’ cheese. All you need is a salad to go alongside

Easy sausage and bean stew

We usually have a bonfire at our flat on Bonfire Night and, along with the mulled wine, I usually make this stew. It’s great because it’s a cheap and easy way to fill up lots of people. It’s also great if you’ve got veggies coming over as you cook the beany stew first (preferably in […]

Baked eggs

These are Turkish eggs, rather than the Mexican huevos rancheros, so the sauce is headily flavoured with fennel and cumin.

Baked eggs

An old favourite

This vegetarian shepherd’s pie is hands-down the most popular recipes on the site; several friends have also made it and they always tell me how much they love it.

Cucumber and sesame noodle salad

This noodle salad has a fiery sweet and spicy dressing, but the cucumber and coriander make it strangely refreshing. I conjured this up on a cold Saturday afternoon from vegetables on hand, to eat while reading the paper. So it goes without saying that you can substitute whatever you have – matchstick thin strips of […]
